TAZ Family Participation Requirements

Family participation is critical to Taz’s success!  A swim meet is a huge event – with more than 400 swimmers and 1,000 guests.  For our home meets, we require at least 100 volunteers.  Away meets require at least 40 Taz volunteers.  Everyone you see on deck who isn’t a coach or a swimmer is a volunteer – it is truly a team effort!

What is required?  To ensure our meets can function, we require each TAZ family to volunteer at every meet in which their swimmer(s) participates and complete a minimum of 12 volunteer hours during the 2024 dual meet season. In addition, if your swimmer(s) choose to participate at the SSL Championship Meet, families must volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours to cover the team’s required shifts at Champs.

What happens if we don’t fulfill our hours?  Families that do not meet the above requirements will not be given priority registration for the following season; they will be permitted to register beginning the second day of open registration. Because Taz’s roster fills quickly every year, this means your swimmer(s) may lose their spot on the team.

I’m a single parent with young children and really can’t volunteer during meets – what should I do?  Contact [email protected]! There are lots of volunteer opportunities outside of meets, and we’re happy to work with families to ensure families can fulfill their hours. Families can also enlist the help of friends or other family members – grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings over 16 – to fill the shifts!

How do I check my hours?  You can check your hours on the team website – www.edhtaz.org (see instructions below).

Help! Our family is short on hours – what do we do?  Contact [email protected]! There are lots of volunteer opportunities outside of meets, and we’re happy to work with families to ensure families can fulfill their hours.

What jobs are available?  For a list of volunteer jobs, go to www.edhtaz.org, click the Team Info tab, then click Volunteer Jobs. Most jobs require only a willingness to help! And many – timers, stroke and turn judges – include front row seats to the action! Please get involved early and often! If you need further explanation of what a job might entail, contact [email protected] or ask a board member on deck!

How do we sign up for jobs?   Families can sign up for jobs online at the team website – www.edhtaz.orgCritical jobs – e.g., timers, clerks, ready bench, leads – will be posted for the entire season by 5pm on May 5.  All other jobs will be posted at 5pm the Sunday before a swim meet. In addition, some jobs requiring training – stroke & turn judges, computer ops, set-up/take-down – are filled directly by the team leads.  If you are interested in joining one of those teams, please contact [email protected].  Other non-meet jobs like Picture Day, Buddy Night, the Champs Rally, and Awards Night, jobs will be released on an as needed basis. Be sure to read the “TAZ TIMES” for news on other possible volunteer hours available throughout the swim season.
