Taz Families,

We’re thrilled to share two major additions to our Taz leadership team: Coach Eddie Akbary as our new Head Coach, and Coach Alec Abrams as our new Swim Programs Manager. These roles will work hand-in-hand to support our swimmers, strengthen our coaching staff, and build an even stronger Taz team.

Head Coach – Coach Eddie Akbary

Eddie grew up in the local swim community—swimming for Folsom Sea Otters, Sierra Marlins, and Sierra College—and brings 13 years of coaching experience across rec, comp, and high school levels. He’s known for his technical expertise, race strategy, mentorship, and ability to create a positive, team-oriented environment where every swimmer feels supported and challenged. We’re excited for the energy and leadership he’ll bring to the pool each day!

Swim Programs Manager – Coach Alec Abrams

Alec joins us with a wealth of experience, including 12 years at Sierra Marlins (where he is currently Head Age Group Coach) and three years with the Folsom Sea Otters. But most important, Alec swam for Taz as a kid! In this new role, Alec will support practice and season planning, family communication, long-term program development, and coach hiring and training. He will also serve as our primary liaison with the Sierra Marlins and help coordinate Taz participation in Fall Team and Marlins clinics.

Partnering for the Future

These hires are part of a broader initiative to partner with the Sierra Marlins, leveraging their resources and expertise, to give Taz swimmers consistent access to top-tier coaching and expanded offseason training opportunities. The Marlins are the premier USA Swimming club in the area, and Eddie and Alec’s combined experience with both programs will create a strong coaching culture that will benefit all Taz athletes. Taz will stay Taz, and the Marlins will stay the Marlins, but we will work together to increase opportunities and the love of swim for all of our swimmers!

Coach Eddie is planning to join us for our annual holiday movie event, on Sunday, December 14. It’s not too late to RSVP if you’d like to attend! We will also plan additional “meet and greets” in the new year, and Eddie will be on deck for Spring Clinic (register now!)

We’re incredibly excited for this next chapter and can’t wait for you to meet both Coach Eddie and Coach Alec. The future of Taz is bright!
